South Australia’s largest meeting of rheumatologists took place last month, and The Hospital Research Foundation Group – Arthritis was there to hear firsthand about the latest advancements in arthritis care.
The South Australian and Northern Territory branch of the Australian Rheumatology Association held its Annual Scientific Meeting at the National Wine Centre in October.
Representing THRF Group – Arthritis were Program Director, Sarah Grindlay, and Health Educators Kate and Fiona.
Attended by rheumatologists and researchers from across the two states, the meeting provided the team with an opportunity to connect with experts and stay up to date with the latest research.
They also presented a poster on a joint research project with Central Adelaide Local Health Network Rheumatology team.
This project aims to proactively support individuals with self-management strategies in line with clinical care standards through our information line.
THRF Group – Arthritis also jointly funded two awards alongside ARA SA/NT, which were presented by Sarah at the meeting.
The Rheumatology Post Graduate Research Award was presented to Flinders University’s Dr Athena Chin, for her research into a mutation in blood cells that could drive inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis.
This award is designed to assist emerging researchers conduct research that aims to enhance the lives of people living with arthritis and associated musculoskeletal conditions.
Dr Alexander Troelnikov, also from Flinders University, took home the Philip Alpers Award.
Named in honour of the late Dr Alpers, a founding member of ARA SA in 1967, the award recognises the most noteworthy basic science presentation at the meeting.
