Young South Australians living with juvenile arthritis were treated to a fun-filled night out in October, thanks to The Hospital Research Foundation (THRF) Group – Arthritis.
Held at Wizbang Family Fun Centre at St Agnes, the night gave kids the chance to socialise in a fun and judgement-free space.
THRF Group – Arthritis was given exclusive use of the centre from 6pm to 9pm, forming connections over a game of mini-golf or laser tag.
It was also an opportunity for families to speak directly with THRF Group – Arthritis’ health education team about their own experiences of navigating juvenile arthritis.
Health educator Ben said the event, the first put on by the team since joining the wider THRF Group, was a success.
“There is a common misconception that arthritis primarily effects older people, but that isn’t the case. It’s estimated that anywhere between 6000 to 10,000 kids in Australia live with juvenile arthritis. That’s just as common as type 1 diabetes, “he said.
“This was a great opportunity for us to provide a fun night out for some of these children and young people, and it was fantastic to see them having a good time and connecting with others on a similar journey.
“We were also able to engage with parents to find out how we can better connect and provide support in the future.”
A huge thank you to the team at Wizbang for providing THRF Group – Arthritis with the exclusive use of their facility!
And a massive thank you also to the families who came out and attended the Family Fun Night.
